We are going to change the salary cap rule on how to release players. I think that the current rule is too punitive, and it discourages owners from cutting loose bad contracts. With this new rule in place, GM's will have till the trading deadline to get rid of bad contracts so it only affects them in the current season and frees up cap space for future seasons.
Here is the new rule:
Releases
If you right-out release a player, you will owe his whole contract each year for the rest of his contract. When you right-out release a player, he will be put on Waivers for 48 hours. Rookie Draft Picks may be waived before the start of the regular season at no charge.
Buy-outs
You also have the option to buy-out a contract. To buy-out a contract, you must pay 50% of the average salary of the remainder of his contract.
Waivers
If you right-out release a player and he is claimed within the 48 hours, then you are not responsible for any of his contract and the team that claims him absorbs his full contract. If a player clears waivers, he becomes a Free-Agent and may be signed by anybody in the league. If the player clears waivers, and then signs with another team, the team that released him still owes the penalty.
If a player gets a buy-out, he will be placed on waivers for 48 hours. If he is claimed on Waivers, you are still responsible for that money owed in the buy-out. If he clears waivers, he is free to sign with anyone.
To put a claim in a player that was either Released or Bough-out, simply put a reply where the post is saying "Claim".
The team with the worst record that claims that player will get his rights with the current contract numbers.
