Releases
If you release a player outright, you will owe his whole contract each year for the rest of his contract. When you release a player outright, he will be put on Waivers for 48 hours. Rookie Draft Picks may be waived before the start of the regular season at no charge.
Buyouts
You also have the option to buyout a contract. To buyout a contract, you must pay 50% of the average salary of the remainder of his contract.
Waivers
If you release a player outright and he is claimed within the 48 hours, then you are not responsible for any of his contract and the team that claims him absorbs his full contract. If a player clears waivers, he becomes a Free Agent and may be signed by anybody in the league. If the player clears waivers, and then signs with another team, the team that released him still owes the penalty.
If a player gets a buyout, he will be placed on waivers for 48 hours. If he is claimed on Waivers, you are still responsible for that money owed in the buyout. If he clears waivers, he is free to sign with anyone.
To put a claim in a player that was either released or bought out, simply put a reply where the post is saying "Claim".
The team with the worst record that claims that player will get his rights with the current contract numbers.
There are no limits as to how many players you can drop, but be aware that every-time you make a drop it will affect your salary cap number for the current year. For teams that are going through bad years, this can be ideal to get rid of player contracts that they may not deem worthy in future seasons.
