Once the retraction draft is done, we will begin free agency. Free agency is a great way to restructure a lot of bad contracts. While in the retraction draft you will have to honor the current contract that the player is due, when free agency starts those contracts will be able to get renegotiated. For example, Kobe's 28 and 30 million dollar contracts are going to be a burden for anybody that takes over the Lakers. My suggestion would be to not protect Kobe as part of the original roster, have everybody pass up on him in the retraction draft, and then have a bidding war on him until somebody signs him at a much lower contract price. The league max for a SG is set right around 19 mil a year, so in a scenario where Kobe is not protected or drafted, that's all he will be able to make at most if he's put back into the pool of free agents. And that will work with almost all players that have contracts that are not worthy of their fantasy ability.
