NBA GM's
I just wanted to remind everyone that the retraction draft starts tomorrow night at midnight eastern time. We still have a vote on the floor to determine what the exact order of the draft will be, as the voting on that poll closes tonight at 10pm EST. The retraction draft will be held in the 'Retraction Draft' folder, as owners will be required to provide name, position, team and player contract when submitting any retraction pick. You will have 12 hours to make your pick. You can also e-mail me your pick, and I will submit it for you.
I want remind the last few owners that have yet to submit an initial keeper roster to the 'Roster Review' thread that time is running out. I really need those rosters by tonight at latest or else league managers will make those decisions for you. And as soon as the retraction draft is completed, we will open up trading and free agency.
Also, I have realigned the divisions by geographical location to the best of my ability. For some reason there is an infinite love for west coast teams in this league, making the division disbursements a little tougher. But I think they work nicely.
One thing to keep in mind for the draft. If a player is grossly over paid, it's probably best that all GM's pass up on him and let the player go into free agency. Kobe Bryant is a great example, he has contracts of 28 and 30 million which will be hell to any GM's cap situation if someone were to draft him. However, free agency is where contracts get restructured, and with the max contract for a SG being somewhere in the 19 million dollar range, that's the most any GM will have to pay for KOBE at max. But, if you see an opportunity in the draft, and you feel you can afford Kobe by drafting him, by all means that is your choice.
Max contract offer ties will be broken by waiver wire order. The waiver wire will work in the reverse of the retraction draft, the team that picks last in the retraction draft will have first waiver wire priority, while the team that picked first will get last priority on the waiver wire. Every-time you make a free agent acquisition, you move down to the bottom of the waiver wire list. So make you acquisitions wisely.
I have also created a list of free agents in the retraction draft folder, it's not the most complete list, but it's pretty good. Other wise you can use your own research to find free agents for the draft.
The San Antonio Spurs were the last team taken, that will be a league managed team until we can find an owner. And, league managers will be collectively making everyday roster decisions until we find that owner. League managers will be forbidden from making any trades with league managed teams until we can find an independent owner.
That's all for now, good luck to everyone in the draft.
